Southeast Asia has a reputation problem. Mention it and most people picture gap year backpackers, cheap hostels, and street food eaten on plastic stools at the side of a busy road. On the other end, there’s The White Lotus crowd: five-star everything with no budget ceiling. None of that is wrong, but it’s not the whole picture. You can sleep well, eat exceptionally, and spend your time in places that actually reward the journey. The budget doesn’t have to be extreme either way.
This blog is for people who travel that way. Someone who wants a good room, a memorable dinner, and a destination that delivers on the idea of it. I’ve spent enough time researching trips, comparing hotels, and sitting through meals I wished I’d skipped to know exactly what’s worth it and what isn’t. This is where I write it down.
Part of this is for me, part of it is for you. A record of accommodations, restaurants, and itineraries — mostly across East and Southeast Asia, but not exclusively. What stays consistent is the approach: first-hand and detailed enough to be useful when you’re actually planning something. I paid attention, and I’m willing to say when something wasn’t worth it. That’s the idea. Have a look around.
